Star Wars Costume Ideas

Homemade Costumes
Any sewing store that sells patterns will either already have “Star Wars” patterns for sale or will be able to order them. If you aren’t talented with a sewing machine, there are certain character costumes that can still made made at home. Those guys in the cantina basically require no more than gray pants and a black turtleneck, though you’ll have to buy a mask to complete the outfit. Any character who is a Jedi can come to life with a brown robe.
Extras
Much of the fun of “Star Wars” costumes is not the actual attire, but the additions. Many characters require a latex mask, and some of these masks can be very complex. Many of the characters carry blasters or lightsabers and there are a number of different types of lightsabers on the market. Gloves are a necessary addition to some characters, not only because they actually wear gloves, but because gloves can be customized to transform normal fingers into bizarre alien fingers.
Offbeat Characters
Going to a “Star Wars” costume party as Darth Vader or Han Solo is almost guaranteed to mean you will be duplicating the costume idea of others. Instead, why not consider a more offbeat costume idea. Two people could go as Jabba the Hutt, for instance. Many people forget that Darth Vader answered to Grand Moff Tarkin in the first installment of the series, so two people going as Darth and Tarkin present an opportunity for an interpretation of Vader rarely seen. Or try going as one of the many strange droids to really stand out. And, of course, the “Star Wars” universe is dotted with several characters notable for their green or blue flesh colors which can always make you stand out from the crowd.
